Alcoutim Câmara is studying ways of reducing its electricity bill and ensuring public lighting is used more efficiently in the council.
Mercury vapour lamps (white) will be replaced by sodium vapour light bulbs (yellow), which are more energy efficient. This project represents an investment of around €7,000. Another measure, which is partly financed by the European Regional Development Fund, will be the installation of light flow regulators in all Alcoutim parishes. It is hoped energy consumption will be reduced by 35% a year, representing a saving of €13,000.
