Portimão Câmara and the city’s Commercial Association (the ACP) turned on the city’s Christmas lights recently. The ACP invited the José Buísel school choir to entertain the crowd at a ceremony that marks the beginning of Christmas fun.
In addition to the lights, atmospheric Christmas music will accompany visitors and, during December, the shops will open on Saturday afternoons, and from Monday to Friday until 8pm.
There will also be entertainment throughout the commercial district. The Alameda in the Praça da República will be one of the main entertainment stages, with a bouncy castle to entertain children every Saturday, and a Father Christmas who will be giving out presents in the street.
In a bid to brighten up the city’s shops, the ACP is running a shop window competition in December and will award prizes to the three shops with the best Christmas decorations.
