FREAK WEATHER in the Mediterranean recently produced one of the most violent thunderstorms ever seen in the Balearics. Experts recorded 2,225 lightening strikes across Majorca, Menorca and Ibiza, a situation that caused flight delays and power cuts. At the height of the storm, officials at Palma airport banned aircraft from refuelling for several hours for safety reasons. There were fears a bolt of electricity could ignite the vapours and cause an explosion.
