A light aircraft crash-landed on Tuesday at the Portimão Municipal Aerodrome in Alvor after an engine failed as it was approaching the landing strip.
The aerial advertising company Socata MS-893A Rallye Commodore 180 crashed into the fence surrounding the airfield and ground to a halt a few metres later.
A spokesman from the aerodrome told the Algarve Resident: “The pilot left the aircraft on his own.”
The 25-year old Portuguese national suffered only minor injuries and was taken to the Barlavento Hospital in Portimão as a precautionary measure as he was complaining of pain in one ankle.
Portimão fire fighters attended the scene and cleared the runway. Air traffic resumed a few hours after the crash.
