Lifeguards – many of them from Brazil and Argentina – are already in place at some of the country’s most popular beaches, particularly those in the Algarve. The beaches of Praia da Rocha and Alvor are the first to benefit from lifeguard cover this year. A number of the young people tasked with this duty having been ‘imported’ for the purpose, with enticement of board and lodging – because it is difficult to fill positions with nationals (who are rarely offered board and lodging…)
