Letter to Jenny Grainer

Re: article ‘What’s in a name?’ (Algarve Resident, January 23)

“Wonderfully innocent political incorrectness”? Are you totally insensitive? Were Hitler and Stalin, Idi Amin and Pinochet along with dozens of other mass murderers merely politically incorrect? Perhaps you really believe there were weapons of mass destruction.

Yours has to be the journalistic gaff of all time. Of course, it could be that I have simply misunderstood you and that you had your tongue in your cheek all the time.

Graham Taylor, by email

Jenny replies: I’m always delighted when a reader takes the trouble to comment on one of my articles – but I am at loss to understand the letter from Mr Taylor regarding my last column entitled ‘What’s in a name?’ My 900 word article covered several subjects, 391 of which were in defence of Prince Harry and his use of the name Paki. Of the whole article he singles out 21 words. ‘One thing I shall miss about George Bush is his wonderfully innocent political incorrectness. He was always good for a laugh.’ Of course it was ‘Tongue in cheek!’
