The «Vamos à Vila» festival in Monchique returns for a second edition on May 27 and 28. According to the Municipality of Monchique, «Vamos à Vila» was created as “a celebration of local traditions.”
During the weekend festivities, the town will be divided into seven villages: Chorões, Largo, Crianças, Misericórdia, Igreja, Marcado and Gallery. In each of the “villages”, located in the main neighbourhoods of the old town of Monchique, there will be numerous activities, ranging from exhibitions, traditional games, knitting and crochet workshops, live artistic performances, and music for visitors of all ages.
The rest of the Algarve and the neighbouring Alentejo region will also participate in the festivities, with a total of 105 exhibitors promoting trades and products. Visitors will have the opportunity to taste and buy local sausages, peanuts from Aljezur, Alentejo cheeses, as well as brandy from Medronho and the rich cuisine of Monchique at the various taverns and restaurants participating in the event.
The streets of Monchique will be alive with entertainment during the weekend event. The programme’s highlight is a performance by famous Fado singer Camané on Sunday, May 28 at 18h00, on the Largo da Igreja.
Admission is free, and a free parking area will be available at the town entrance on the road to Alferce. From here, a complimentary little train will transport visitors into town.
«Vamos à Vila» takes place on Saturday, May 27, from 11h00 to 23h00, and on Sunday, May 28, from 11h00 am to 21h30.
