Christmas is just around the corner. Bring on the mince pies, boxes of Roses chocolates, endless replays of ‘Last Christmas’ and, my favourite, a big glass of ice-cold Baileys. Then it’s New Year’s Eve before we know it. It’s fair to say we are more than happy to bring in the New Year with hope and possibility. So, let’s get this party started!
Whether you’re a social butterfly or not, parties and dinner get-togethers with family, friends and work colleagues are a staple when it’s the end of the year. Let’s glam up your beauty routine this holiday with the latest Christmas and New Year party makeup this season.
When we think of Christmas makeup, the classic red lip will always be the frontrunner. It’s a classic timeless look. However, I love a deep wine-coloured lipstick as it’s a simple way to glam up any festive look and it looks great on all skin tones. Keep the eyes simple perhaps, with a pop of nude shimmer and, voilà, you are good to go!
One of my favourite brands for lipstick is KIKO Milano. Their colour range and quality are immense and the prices are extremely reasonable compared to other leading brands. And, more importantly, they have a fantastic sale on at the moment, so you will get some amazing deals.
I love their lipstick line called ‘Holiday Gems Lasting Luxury Matt Lipstick’. It’s long lasting – claiming to last up to a staggering eight hours – so you don’t need to worry while partying. It has the most beautiful sugar aroma, and its packaging has the cutest gem-inspired design. It comes in nine shades, but my favourite for the holiday season is the beautiful wine-coloured 09 Vino Dolce. Priced at €7.99, you can’t go wrong, ladies. The packaging is also so attractive.
Another trend this Christmas and New Year is shimmer and shine, with lots of highlight on the skin focusing on stunning shimmering cheekbones, which will look amazing at any candle light dinner or drinks out on the town. It’s important to note that less can be more, so don’t be overly generous while applying and be sure to apply in good lighting, or you will end up being seen from space!
There are so many highlighters I love, but, for the party season, I love ICONIC London Illuminator. I actually used this at a bridal trial recently and, I have to say, it’s one of the best highlighters on the market; it’s just so bendable and soft.
It’s a liquid shimmer and a little really goes a long way. You can add to your foundation also to give a beautiful dewy glow, or pop on the eyelids and softly blend. Available in five shades, but I love the shade Original. Worn by Kim Kardashian and used by many makeup artists on YouTube, this is worth its cost of €33.90.
Worn by Lady Gaga at her film premier last week of ‘House of Gucci’, her purple shimmer eye makeup was outstanding. Picking up on this season’s love for purple shimmer eyeshadow, her makeup was on trend as she paired this look with a beatiful nude lip.
Also, another hot eyeshadow trend this Christmas and New Year is shimmery green eyeshadow. Both these colours will look perfect at any event this holiday.
One palette that combines some amazing purple, greens and good old reliable browns and creams is URBAN DECAY Born to Run Eyeshadow Palette. It has 21 shades and a huge variation of colours, so this palette is the only one you will really need in your makeup bag.
They apply beautifully as they have a very velvety texture, so it’s not a messy application. Its purple and green shades are stunning, just perfect for the Christmas and New Year. It can be bought at Sephora for €56.90.
Wishing all my readers a Happy Christmas and New Year!
