THIRTEEN DEATHS on the roads have been recorded by police, over the holiday weekend, during what has been called ‘Operation Saint António’. Among the fatal road accidents was a head on collision in the Silves area of the IC1, which killed two men, aged 25 and 52, and left two others seriously injured. Between Thursday morning and midnight on Monday, the number of accidents recorded was 915, a figure that is actually significantly lower compared to the same period in 2004 (1,243 accidents). However, the number of deaths increased from 11 to 13, while the number of people seriously injured (25) is 12 less than last year.
