Left-wing parties PCP and BE have asked the government to stop national cement company Cimpor from suspending the contracts of around 30 employees at its Loulé factory – which could lead to a “worrying social plight”.
The decision boiled down to a “50% decrease in the sale of cement in the last five years,” Cimpor said in June.
The company pledged to “resume its full activity at the Loulé factory as soon as the market conditions justify doing so”.
