Left Bloc questions councils over street lighting

Three MPs from the Left Bloc (Bloco de Esquerda) have asked the Algarve’s mayors if they thought electricity supplier EDP Distribuição has invested sufficiently in the efficiency of their street lighting.

The goal, they say, is to establish if enough is being done to improve the quality of the public street lighting network.

The politicians say public street lighting in almost all of Portugal’s boroughs is not well-maintained and needs serious improvements, which is why “investments in modernisation are very important and the key to better energy efficiency”.

The bid is supported by Algarve MP João Vasconcelos as well as Jorge Costa and Heitor de Sousa.
