Fully qualified pensions advisors will be available to give advice during a free drop-in clinic to be held on October 14 at the Hotel Tivoli Carvoeiro, while a seminar discussing the benefits and risks of offshore pensions will then be held on October 15 at the Hotel Tivoli Marina Portimão.
The events, organised by UK-based independent financial advisers AISA, have been created to give foreign residents living in the Algarve the opportunity to meet with a financial advisor without appointment during the drop-in clinic while experts on pension legislation will provide insight into offshore pensions during the seminar.
Philip Teague, one of the advisers who will be attending the Algarve events, said: “Through our recent dealings with expats in other countries, it has become evident to us that people have been sold offshore pensions from local advisers who have not fully understood pension legislation.”
He continued: “For example, there is a risk that, in the future, UK revenue and customs may catch up with people who have unknowingly abused their pension scheme by taking out much higher levels of cash than is allowed.”
Philip Teague will be joined by Geordie Bulmer and James Percy-Caldwell as part of the AISA team of advisers.
The events are free to attend, with the clinic on October 14 taking place between 10am and 5pm and the seminar on October 15 beginning at 10.30am.
