League leaders held

SC Olhanense travelled north to play a FC Porto ‘B’ side that had scored 39 goals in 16 home games and had only failed to find the back of the net on one occasion.

The home played the more attractive football but came up against a solid Olhanense defence that has not conceded more than one goal in any game since early January.

Galassi has been on song for the Algarve side and he went close on two occasions in the opening 10 minutes. Porto responded as Rodrigo fired over after 17 minutes and Verdasca shot wide just before the interval.

The second-half mirrored the first with Porto having most of the possession but being caught on the counter-attack as Gonzalez, Said and Galassi combined well.

Ismael, Porto’s Panamanian international, looked lively but lacked support. Galassi very nearly gave Olhanense the lead on the hour-mark but U21 Portugal keeper José Sá saved well.

Olhanense will have been delighted to extend their unbeaten run to four games with this hard-fought 0-0 draw.

As the paper went to press, Olhanense were due to play second-place GD Chaves. On Sunday, the team return north to play Ac.Viseu before entertaining Gil Vicente at the José Arcanjo Stadium, Olhão on Wednesday, March 16, kick-off 3pm. Tickets are available on the day of the game.
