One of the kingpins of an operation that exploited a legal loophole to sell European citizenship to as many as 22,0000 Indians has been successfully extradited from UK to Portugal and is now awaiting trial. The issue centres on the network’s fraudulent use of Portuguese nationality for Indians allegedly born in the former territories of Goa, Damão and Diu. Of 11 defendants, four are being kept in preventive custody.
