Latest screenings for head and neck cancers detect 30 new cases

Screenings for head and neck cancers at 12 Portuguese hospitals last Monday flagged 12 new cases and will ensure these go on for rapid follow-up treatment. It’s something of a coup for a form of cancer that kills three people every day in Portugal, but which has an 80% treatment success rate if caught in the early stages. The screenings are considered “fundamental” for smokers and anyone who drinks alcohol to excess.
