British citizens wishing to register to vote in the European elections on June 4 need to submit their registration forms by May 19.
Conservative Party Chairman Eric Pickles said: “It is crucial that as many expats as possible register to vote in the forthcoming elections.”
He added: “So many of the laws passed in the UK Parliament and European Parliament impact on British citizens living overseas and it is crucial that expats register to vote so they can have a say on who passes the legislation that has a direct impact on them.”
Any British citizen who has appeared on an electoral role in the past 15 years is eligible to vote in UK Parliamentary and European elections, yet only 14,000 of the estimated 2.5 million eligible voters are registered.
