When middle aged Larry Crowne (Tom Hanks) loses his job, he also loses his direction in life. With free time on his hands for the first time in years he decides to head back to college to start his life afresh.
In his youth Larry had gone straight from school into the navy and missed his chance to enjoy the college experience so when he is unexpectedly made redundant from his job in a large chain store, going to college seems to be the best option.
While in college he becomes part of a group of outcasts who travel around in a pack on scooters but it is an encounter with a teacher Mercedes Tainot (Julia Roberts) that helps Larry to find his real new lease on life as the burnt out teacher and Larry find that just when you think life has passed you by, there is always something new around the corner.
