More than 20 students took part in a series of Portuguese language lessons at the Casa do Povo in Messines as part of an initiative by local resident Peter Jones to try and help to integrate foreign residents into the local community.
Now he hopes to extend the lessons for others wanting to learn the language.
Peter Jones told the Algarve Resident: “I believe that it is very important that we help people who obviously really need the language and we are now currently trying to get together enough people for another absolute beginners course as well as maintain our beginners and improvers courses.”
The course of lessons comprises 10 classes held twice a week for 90 minutes and costs €30. “The absolute beginners course is aimed at people who cannot even say Bom Dia and we already have four people interested in this but are looking for more people to sign up to make the classes feasible.”
