Portugal and Spain are to discuss the reinstatement of land border control during World Youth Day, taking place in Lisbon, in August, the interior minister said today – acknowledging that many visitors could converge on the capital via Spain. José Luís Carneiro reiterated that around 1.5 million people are expected to the event – promoted by the Catholic Church – for which security is the responsibility of SSI, Portugal’s internal security system.
