Lagos school represents Portugal at Dance World Cup

Three dancers from the Lagos-based dance school Move-Ment are currently representing Portugal at the 2015 Dance World Cup.

Nicola and Annika Thomas and Chantal Ellison qualified for the event in March and are now looking to bring some medals and awards back to the Algarve.

Every year, over 15,000 children in 38 countries try to qualify for the event’s final, which this year is being held in Bucharest, Romania, from June 28 to July 4. Only 3,000 make it.

Chantal Ellison, 15, will be performing a tap solo called ‘When I’m Gone’ to the popular ‘Cup Song’, while young Annika Thomas, 12, will perform a jazz solo to ‘What a Feeling’.

Her older sister Nicola, 17, will be competing with both a jazz and tap solo – ‘America’ and ‘Bojangles’ respectively.

She is also responsible for the choreography of all the dances Move-Ment is taking to the event.

The sisters are also expected to perform a tap duet known as ‘Singing in the Rain’.

Last year, the Dance World Cup took place at the Centro de Congressos do Arade pavilion in Parchal, where local dancing schools were able to win 24 medals and five special awards.

The event moves on to a different country every year.
