Lagos council has announced plans to expand the town’s pet cemetery – “doubling its capacity” – at a cost of €17,350. Work is expected to last 60 days and will include an additional 36 burial units – four for larger animals, 25 for medium-size animals and seven for smaller pets.
The pet cemetery was inaugurated in 2007 after a proposal for its construction won a majority of votes under the Orçamento Participativo (people’s budget).
“Only pet animals up to 1.15 metres in length or 70kg are allowed to be buried at the cemetery,” confirmed the council.
