Lagos joins “Fishermen’s Trail” to showcase the beauty of its coastline

Lagos has been added to the ‘Trilho dos Pescadores’ (Fishermen’s Trail), described as “possibly one of the best coastal trails in the world”.

Located between Burgau and Lagos, this new 11km stretch of the trail spans some of the municipality’s most stunning natural attractions such as Ponta da Piedade and Praia da Luz.

The Fishermen’s Trail is a larger 226.5km network of coastal trails along the Costa Vicentina and the Algarve’s western and south-western coast.

While challenging, these trails give hikers a chance to test themselves while in “permanent contact with the sea and nature”.

Lagos Council financed the creation of the new route and also contributed €3,600 towards the development and maintenance of the ‘Rota Vicentina’ project.

The council stresses that it is committed to developing sports and nature tourism in the municipality, being an active partner in the promotion of the Algarve as a “cycling and walking” destination and helping organise the Barão de São João ‘Walk & Art Fest’.

It adds that the goal of the ‘Rota Vicentina’ project is to “establish the region as an international destination for nature and active tourism, attract new markets, stimulate new businesses and raise awareness among locals and visitors about the importance of protecting the region’s natural and cultural heritage”.
