Lagos hosts music festival to raise funds for seven-year-old cancer victim

Lagos is hosting a music festival on Tuesday (October 4) in a bid to raise money for seven-year-old Salvador from Odiáxere who is fighting a very aggressive form of cancer.

The event, organised by a group of friends of the boy’s parents, is taking place at the Rossio da Trindade football field near the town’s camp site at 8pm. Performers include Portuguese band Os Anjos, singer Ana Moura, singer-songwriter NBC and many other regional acts.

Tickets cost €5, which will all go to the fund set up to take Salvador abroad for treatment. Proceeds of drinks and food sold at the festival will also go to the cause.

A “boy with a huge passion for football”, Salvador was diagnosed three months ago with stage four “intramedullary glioblastoma” for which his parents Miguel Schuster and Sofia Rodrigues Lopes have been told there is no cure in Portugal.

The pair is committed to finding treatment abroad “as fast as possible”. Meantime, Salvador is undergoing radiotherapy and chemotherapy treatments at Lisbon’s IPO cancer hospital. The family has been told this is the “only way” to slow the growth of Salvador’s tumour, to “gain time” enough to seek “alternative treatment outside Portugal”.
