A group from the dance association in Lagos led by Liliana da Silva has been busy in training for its latest programme of dances for the forthcoming shows to celebrate International Day of Dance at the Lagos Cultural Centre on April 27.
The Associação de Dança de Lagos recently put on a display of old favourites and new surprises for a packed gala dinner at the Adega da Marina in Lagos, which proved so popular that it will become a regular event.
Following the gala dinner, some of the girls went on to compete in the international dance competition Dançarte in Faro later in March.
This year the group entered the competition with a Georgian traditional dance ‘Lesginka’ and won.
The school is now hoping to send 13 pupils to Villach in Austria for the Dance World Cup in June.
Last year the youngest group of 8-9 year olds also qualified for the Dance World Cup in Paris and came fourth in the finals.
Donations towards helping the Associação de Dança de Lagos represent the Algarve in Austria this year are welcome.
