WORLD MUSIC Day (October 1) is being celebrated in Lagos next month, with a range of concerts taking place from October 1 to 5, including a piano recital from acclaimed Portuguese pianist, Mário Laginha.
Mário will be performing on the first day of the celebrations (October 1) at the Centro Cultural de Lagos. The recital begins at 9.30pm and tickets cost 10 euros each, for OAPS and under 18s entry is free.
Also taking place on World Music Day will be a special concert from the Orquestra do Algarve, organised by Lagos Câmara to honour Mozart who died 250 years ago this year. The concert takes place at the Igreja da Luz in Lagos at 7pm, entrance is free.
Then it is back to the Centro Cultural de Lagos on October 2, for a concert by the Orquestra de Jazz de Lagos, taking place at 9.30pm. Tickets for this show are priced at 10 euros each.
On October 3, it will be the turn of the city’s choirs in the Centro Cultural de Lagos. The Coro Infanto-Juvenil and Grupo Coral de Lagos will be performing at 9.30pm. Entrance is free, but tickets must be collected from the Centro Cultural de Lagos in advance as places are limited.
On October 4, the Sociedade Filarmónica Lacobrigense 1º de Maio and Academia de Música de Lagos present a “Concerto da Amizade”, friendship concert, at 9.30pm in the same venue. Once again, entrance is free but it is necessary to collect a ticket in advance.
The celebrations end on October 5 with a further concert by the Orquestra do Algarve, taking place once more at the Centro Cultural de Lagos, at 9.30pm. On this occasion, the orchestra will be performing music by Bach and Haydn. Tickets cost 8.50 euros each.
