Lagos bum-sniper grips community by fear

A Lagos community is walking in fear after a mystery airgun sniper let rip this week, injuring five pedestrians in their buttocks as they struggled through torrential rain.
PSP police are “convinced the shooter is going for people’s backsides”, wrote Correio da Manhã newspaper.
Officers have already narrowed the trajectory down to a block of apartments at the top of the town in Santo Amaro, and searches are ongoing.
But in the meantime people are understandably concerned that the “joke in very poor taste” could be repeated.
“We can’t walk in the street anymore,” local resident Carlos Manuel told CM.
The mystery shooter began targeting pedestrians on Tuesday evening during heavy rain.
First, two women were hit, then two teenage girls from the nearby Júlio Dantas school and finally 16-year-old Lucas Martins, who was walking with his friend Marco Fatias.
Fatias told CM: “He asked me to see what he had there, and I saw a lead pellet”.
The duo went first to the pharmacy but were sent to the hospital.
“When INEM were dealing with him, we noticed other people had been hurt,” Fatias continued.
The shootings started around 6pm.
According to CM, police studying the trajectory think the shots were fired from a nearby block of apartments. Four were searched on Wednesday to no avail.
A police source told CM that the sniper is believed to have been using a telescopic sight.
