Lagoa Council is urging its younger citizens to propose projects that they think could change their town for the better as part of its first ‘Orçamento Participativo Jovem’, a people’s budget aimed at those aged 12 to 25.
The council has allotted €60,000 to the initiative which will be divided amongst the three winning projects. The cost of each project cannot exceed €20,000, the council says.
Projects must be pitched until October 31 at www.mypolis.eu. Voting will take place in November and December, with the winning projects being announced between January and February 2021.
Lagoa Mayor Luís Encarnação is hopeful that the initiative will encourage the municipality’s youths to become more active citizens.
“This opportunity for youngsters to propose their own projects means they can leave a mark on the municipality of Lagoa from a young age,” he said.
