Lagoa’s much-anticipated Wine Show is taking place this weekend (April 22-24) at Centro de Congressos do Arade in Parchal.
Marketed as “one of the biggest wine shows in the south of Portugal”, the event will feature around 100 wine producers from all over the country, including many from the Algarve, as well as concerts, tastings and cooking demonstrations.
Also on the agenda is a ‘Sangria Festival’ on Friday at 8pm, a conference about Lagoa’s wine-related history on Saturday at 4.30pm, and the award ceremony of the town’s sports-themed photography competition on Sunday at 6pm.
Finally, the concert programme includes performances by Rodrigo Leão (April 22), António Zambujo (April 23) and Deolinda and DJ Raquel Loureiro (April 24), all starting at 9.30pm.
The Wine Show, held for the first time last year, will have special significance this year as Lagoa was named Portugal’s ‘City of Wine’ for 2016. Thus the town is hoping the event will help it justify the title and promote Lagoa and the Algarve as “wine regions of excellence”.
Admission is free, though concert tickets cost €10. They can be purchased at ticketline.pt or Lagoa’s São José convent.
A wine glass can also be purchased at the event for €5.
The Lagoa Wine Show is organised by Lagoa council alongside the Algarve Wine Route (RVA), the Association of Portuguese Wine Municipalities (AMPV) and “Wine in Moderation – Art de Vivre (WIM) aisbl”, a European non-profit association.
