Lagoa council has announced plans to remove half of the municipality’s billboards by the end of 2017. It explained that 240 billboards is “too high a number for a small borough like Lagoa”. They not only have a negative effect on the natural landscape, but are also a danger to drivers and pedestrians as they reduce visibility, it said. Plans are to remove 25% of the billboards this year and another 25% in 2017.
