Lagoa recreates “Agrarian Family Feast”

On May 27 and 28, Lagoa will recreate the “Festa da Família Agrária”, which was one of the Municipality’s greatest religious feasts.

As part of the celebrations marking 250 years of the Municipality, Lagoa is recreating the “Festa da Família Agrária” – the Agrarian Family Feast – on May 27 and 28.

Celebrating Lagoa’s agricultural culture, the first festivities were organised in 1961 and, as a general rule, always took place on the last weekend of May.

“The “Festa da Família Agrária” was a great manifestation of the Catholic faith in Lagoa in the 1960s and the beginning of the following decade, when Lagoa was an essentially agricultural municipality, incubator of a prosperous cooperative winery, and displayed the rurality of the parish”, explains the Municipality on its website.

This year, the recreation of the feast will feature a Candle Procession on May 27, starting with a mass at the Igreja Matriz de Lagoa at 20:00. The procession will leave at 21:00, arriving at the Capela do Carmo at 23:00.

On Sunday, May 28, the festivities start at 15:30 with a tasting of “local flavours” at the Capela do Carmo (Convent’BIO), followed by the “blessing of the fields and the community”.

The Processional Parade will leave from the Capela do Carmo at 18:00, making its way to the Igreja Matriz de Lagoa, where it is expected to arrive at 20:00.

Participants are urged to park their cars by the Carlos do Carmo Auditorium as a free shuttle, courtesy of the Municipality, will run between the Carlos do Carmo Auditorium and the Convent’Bio on Saturday (between 23:00 and 00:30) and on Sunday (between 15:00 and 16:00).
