A project to renovate a number of public areas in the municipality of Lagoa using the services of local building companies has been launched by the council.
In a press statement, the council says that the €600,000 initiative will extend to areas in Parchal, Calvário and Porches.
The local authority hopes the initiative will ‘kill two birds with one stone’ – by helping renovate areas that have been rundown for a long time, while also boosting the business of local builders whose livelihoods took a battering in the economic crisis.
The only ‘rules’ of the programme are that each renovation cannot cost more than €150,000, and no building firm can be in charge of more than one project.
