Lagoa opens new Covid-19 testing centre at Fatacil

Lagoa Council has announced the opening of a Covid-19 testing centre at the Fatacil fairground.

The testing centre opens tomorrow (Friday, January 7) and will allow local citizens to carry out one free antigen test per week and up to four each month.

Test results will be emailed on the same day in Portuguese and in English. According to the council, the result certificate “complies with the requirements for travelling,” although “some airlines require RT-PCR tests instead.”

It is also mandatory to have a valid Portuguese health number to undergo a test at the testing centre. (Click here) to make a booking.

Meanwhile, the council has also announced the renewal for another six months of its protocol with the National Association of Pharmacies which will continue allowing local citizens to carry out two free tests per month at the following pharmacies: Farmácia Lagoa, Farmácia Maceta and Farmácia Ferragudo.

Lagoa’s old hospital is also being used as the site for the testing of the local school community and for those who have been called to carry out a PCR test by the national health service (SNS).

“It was extremely important to strengthen our testing in the borough at a time when our children and youngsters will return to school and that the containment period decreed by the government is going to end,” said Lagoa Mayor Luís Encarnação.

He added: “We have to join forces to mitigate the effects of the pandemic to prepare for the high season and safeguard our economy.”
