Lagoa mayor presents cultural 'dream'

His dream has been to make culture available and accessible to all. Lagoa Mayor Francisco Martins presented the municipality’s cultural agenda for 2014 during a Fado concert with talented singer Carminho at the municipal auditorium on February 1.
Martins announced that this year is being dubbed ‘Ano do Mar – Mar de Sentidos’ (Year of the Sea – Ocean of Senses).
Speaking to the audience, Francisco Martins said: “2014 will be the accomplishment of a dream I always had as a citizen and politician – to bring culture to everyone without any kind of discrimination, so that each and every one of us can learn a bit more than others who did not have the same opportunity.”
He said that events planned will help Lagoa showcase its welcoming people and how locals live well and safely within the municipality.
He explained the ocean theme was linked to its “diversity and richness”, namely in terms of what it gives us.
Martins added that 2015 will be dedicated to wine, which the borough has been producing successfully, having won many national and international awards.
Throughout the year, the Algarve Resident will attempt to keep readers up to date with Lagoa’s busy agenda.
Coming up over the next three Saturdays are Fado shows in Calvário at the Rancho Folclórico headquarters on February 15; Porches at the São Dinis Cultural Centre on February 22, and then finally Lagoa at the municipal auditorium. The first two shows begin at 4pm, while the last begins at 9.30pm.
