Four weekends of shows are planned
Lagoa is preparing for the return of its International Guitar Festival, which will take place between September 9 and October 1 at several venues in the municipality.
Organisers are promising a varied programme with something for everyone. “We have done everything to honour the attention, care, and dedication that the Municipality of Lagoa has put into its cultural programming, especially in the support that, over the past ten years, it has shown to the International Guitar Festival of Lagoa,” says the local council.
The programme begins with a performance by 40 Fingers, an Italian guitar quartet created in 2017 by “four artists with entirely different musical backgrounds, each well-established in Italy’s music scene through their many individual projects.” The concert will be held on Saturday, September 9 at Carvoeiro’s beach square, with free admission.
A double performance is planned for Sunday, September 10 at Quinta dos Vales in Estômbar, which will host live shows by Brazilian singer Dilene Ferraz and Argentine classical guitar player Sergio Fabian Lavia, as well as quartet Se.Go.Vi.O.
Renowned Portuguese guitarist Diogo Carlos will take the stage at the Cultural Centre of Lagoa’s São José Convent on Saturday, September 16, followed by the duo of bandoneon player Fabio Furia and guitarist Alessandro Deiana.
The festivities will continue on Sunday, September 17 at Estômbar’s Sítio das Fontes, where world-renowned classical guitarist Marko Topchii will perform as well as the Copains’ Cabana ensemble, which will bring the sounds of Latin America to the Algarve.
The third weekend of performances will feature Portugal’s reveered guitarist Quitó de Sousa Antunes and singer-guitarist duo Luciano and Giusy Pompilio, who will showcase their talent at Estômbar’s Matriz church on Saturday, September 23, while the Early Guitar Duo and Invisible Strings will be the performing acts on Sunday, September 24 at Lagoa’s Matriz church.
On the final weekend of shows, Duo Vladislav Bláha & Tanja Drobysh and Luís Coelho will perform on Saturday, September 30 at the Carlos do Carmo Auditorium, while Portuguese guitarist Noble will bring the event to a close on Sunday, October 1 at the same auditorium.
All performances begin at 5.30pm, with tickets costing €10 per person for the paid shows on September 10, 16, 17, 30 and October 1.
