Organisers are promising three nights of “good wine, food and Fado” for the Lagoa Wine Show, to be held from Thursday to Saturday (June 20-22) in the centre of town.
The wine show has become one of the most important events of its kind in the south of Portugal, with scores of people attracted by the prospect of trying the many wines on offer.
This year, three stages will be set up, named “Colheita Selecionada”, “Vinhas Velhas” and “Grande Reserva”, to shine the spotlight on the different kinds of wine available.
Visitors will also be able to enjoy all kinds of local delights such as tapas, cheeses, smoked ‘chouriço’ and sweets.
The event has also become synonymous with Fado music.
Gisela João, Marco Rodrigues and Maria Emília have been confirmed as the headlining performers, while two initiatives – ‘Fado à Mesa’ and ‘Fado à Janela’ – will see singers and musicians walking along the town’s streets, stopping to perform at restaurants and even at people’s balconies.
The event is held along the town’s ‘red street’ (Rua Coronel Figueiredo) as well as Praça da República and Largo Alves Roçadas and will run from 7.30pm to midnight.
Admission is free although for €3 visitors can purchase a glass to taste all the wines on show.
