Lagoa gears up for Jazz Fest this weekend

The 16th Lagoa Jazz Fest will take place in Sítio das Fontes in Estômbar this weekend, bringing several renowned international jazz musicians to the Algarve.

The event did not take place last year due to the pandemic but is returning in 2021 with an impressive line-up of musicians from all over the world.

Festivities begin on Friday (July 2) with a performance by Brazilian duo Gileno Santana and Felipe Vargas, followed by the Mário Franco quintet.

The Argentine-Japanese group Gaia Cuatro will take the stage on Saturday (July 3), while the Michelle Ribeiro Brazilian and Portuguese quintet will bring the festival to a close on Sunday.

Concerts begin at 8.30pm. Tickets can be purchased “preferably” online at ticketline.pt or at Fnac, Worten, the Carlos do Carmo auditorium or Lagoa’s Balcão Único and cost €10 (per concert), with a 20% discount available to holders of Lagoa’s cultural passport or social card.

Due to the pandemic and the national health board rules, seating will be limited and “individual protection measures” will be implemented.

The first Lagoa Jazz Fest was held in 2003. The event has gained a respectable following since then and attracted top-tier musicians, including Stanley Johnson, Richard Galliano, Concha Buika, J.D. Walter, Antonio Faraò, Omar Akim, Maria João, Mário Laginha and Edmar Castaneda.
