Lagoa firefighters receive cheque

news: Lagoa firefighters receive cheque

Cliff Benford, current captain of Mungo’s Golf Society based in Carvoeiro, presented a cheque for 1,000 euros to the head of Lagoa Bombeiros, Comandante Victor Rio Alves, recently. The money will go towards the purchase of four personal safety alarms which, if a fire fighter remains stationary for more than 20 seconds, sound an alarm. Cliff asked his golfing buddies, who regularly number between 16 and 20, to contribute one euro each to charity when they play every Saturday. “I originally wanted the money to go to a children’s charity, but the events of the last few weeks changed my mind and I decided to donate the proceeds to the bombeiros,” Cliff told The Resident. All money raised by charities goes to Val Johnstone, fundraiser and honorary member of the bombeiros since 1997.
