Lagoa’s streets will be filling up with a number of small sea-creatures this Carnaval on February 28, as children are expected to be dressing up in honour of the municipality’s ‘Year of the Ocean’.
As always, the traditional costume parade will be the highlight of the Carnaval festivities.
Students and teachers from local kindergartens and primary schools will parade through Lagoa, Carvoeiro, Porches, Estômbar, Parchal and Ferragudo, showing off their colourful outfits, very often lovingly homemade by committed parents and family members.
According to the municipality, this year’s ocean theme is meant to stress the importance of the Atlantic and the Arade River.
