Lagoa boosts financial support for volunteer firefighters

Lagoa’s volunteer firefighters have been given a financial boost by the local council which has set aside around €708,000 for the brigade in 2021.

The money is being handed over following the signing of two protocols with Lagoa’s Humanitarian Association of Volunteer Firefighters last Thursday (March 25).

Around €348,000 will go towards helping the firefighters’ response to emergency situations, patient transportation, home assistance for the elderly and other similar services, while around €360,000 will go into strengthening the municipal civil protection services.

As Lagoa Mayor Luís Encarnação said, “it is vital to recognise and thank the extraordinary work that the volunteer firefighters of Lagoa have carried out throughout the years, but especially now during this pandemic.”
