Lagoa approves new housing strategy

Lagoa Council approved last month a new housing strategy which marks the start of a “new generation of housing policies that aim to solve existing issues and create conditions to attract new residents to the borough”.

Said the council, “this is a fundamental planning instrument”.

So far, it has already helped identify the need to add 200 houses to its housing stock, either by rehabilitating or renting out existing properties.

The document will also allow the local authority to present bids for community funding, which it says could be of “extreme importance for the borough and the region”.

Said local mayor Luís Encarnação, “this local housing strategy is decisive to ensure the constitutional right to have access to adequate housing for all the people of Lagoa.

“The council’s mission will not be completed until all citizens of Lagoa are assured dignified living conditions.”
