THE SECOND Algarve Ladies Lunch took place at the Hotel Garbe in Armação de Pêra recently, with almost 90 ladies from five different clubs attending.
Helen Denman, president of the Eastern Ladies Lunch Group, opened the proceedings, welcoming the ladies of five other clubs to the lunch. The ladies enjoyed a three course buffet lunch and the opportunity to meet old and new friends.
After lunch, each of the presidents spoke for a few minutes about their club. Doreen Sell, from the Hill Billy Ladies told guests that in addition to lunches, the group has also organised boat trips, Easter bonnet competitions and cookery demonstrations.
From the Western Algarve Ladies, Jill Pearce told the audience that the group started in 1992, held monthly lunches with speakers and organised autumn coach holidays for their members.
Margaret Gobby spoke about the “youngest” club, the Lunch Bunch, which was formed just two years ago. Guests then heard from Pauline Thurman whose group of Probus Ladies from Oxford were enjoying a week’s holiday at the Hotel Garbe. Probus is a club for retired or semi retired business people.
