Lacking language

Portugal is the second country in the EU in which the least number of adults are able to speak a foreign language, according to data revealed on European Language day, September 24, by Eurostat.

A total of 1.3 per cent of adults in Portugal between the ages of 25 and 64 do not speak a foreign language.

Only Hungary is below Portugal, with 78.4 per cent of the adult population not able to speak a foreign language.

Lithuania currently holds the record, with only 2.5 per cent of adults not able to speak another language.
