King of Cocaine arrested after 23 years, with Portuguese ‘queen’

One of Italy’s most wanted mafiosos, dubbed the King of Cocaine, has finally been detained in Uruguay after 23 years on the run.

With Rocco Morabito (apparently masquerading as a Brazilian) was an Angolan woman in possession of a Portuguese passport.

Says Diário de Notícias, Morabito belongs to the Italian Ndrangheta ‘family’ – one of the largest drug trafficking rings shipping cocaine into Europe.

Morabito now faces 30 years in jail.

He eluded authorities in 1993, after being ‘caught’ trafficking a ton of cocaine into Italy.

It is not clear what has happened to his Portuguese-nationality wife.

DN suggests she too was arrested by Uruguay police working in collaboration with Italian counterparts, but there is no mention of any charges.
