Kidnap arrests

A SPANISH businessman, who was kidnapped in Madrid on March 6, was rescued from an apartment in Monte Gordo by police last Thursday (March 20) and five people were arrested.

Police monitored calls made from a Portuguese mobile phone to Spain and this surveillance eventually led to the arrests. Two Portuguese men and one Spanish man were remanded in custody, while two Portuguese women were released but ordered to appear periodically at a police station.

It is believed Pedro Aguirre Hormaechea was kidnapped for ransom and the judicial police are investigating the case.
