Kicking cancer to the curb

A group of Algarve residents participated in a charity football match on May 15, in aid of the Marie Curie Cancer Care charity, an organisation providing free palliative care to terminally ill patients.

The game took place on a football pitch provided free of charge by the Bela Vista Hotel in Albufeira and a total of 12 players, accompanied by family and friends, took part in a six-a-side game, while sporting pink T-shirts reading ‘Supporting Marie Curie Breast Cancer’.

Event organiser, Chris Whatley, initiated the event with hopes of raising funds for a cause close to his heart, to be donated at a ‘Pink Tie Ball’ that he will be attending later this month in England.

A total of €200 was raised on the day, in addition to a further €150 worth of donations received following the event.
