The by now widely recognised East African cross country dominance continued to be evident at last weekend’s Almond Flower run in Albufeira.
Kenya’s Kiprono Menjo, a three-time winner here previously, crossed the finishing line in front of Ethopia’s Mohamed Burka in the men’s event, with third-placed Manuel Damião taking the Portuguese national title.
The women’s race in turn was dominated by Kenyan Correti Jepkoech who finished almost half a minute ahead of Lithuanian veteran Yelena Prokopchuka.
Third and Portuguese champion for the third consecutive year was Dulce Felix who did well to clearly see off the challenge of another highly regarded Kenyan, Eunice Jepkorir, in the home straight.
