Loulé Câmara has finally taken action against an illegal kennel, Merry Legs Pet Centre and Resort in Areeiro, by ordering the owners to demolish it. The decision has been welcomed by many local residents, who lodged official complaints of excessive noise with the câmara.
Merry Legs Pet Centre and Resort possessed a licence for a veterinary surgery, which permitted three cats or two dogs overnight stays, but, in violation of the licence, the owners also had a kennel, with around 15 pens. Official complaints of excessive noise were submitted to the câmara only six weeks after the kennel originally opened. Since then, petitions and meetings between residents and the câmara have taken place, resulting in the present situation.
A spokesperson for Loulé Câmara revealed that the kennels were constructed without the appropriate building licence, and so a demolition order was served. The kennels must be demolished within 30 days of the licence being served. The veterinary surgery will not be affected, as all licences with regard to that were in order.
