New research has revealed that people who have a full bladder make better decisions.

Researchers from the University of Twente in Holland found that the self control mechanism required to hold off a visit to the toilet also provides restraint in all of the brain leading to better judgement in decision making.

The research recommends that anyone wanting to make a decision on an expensive or important issue should drink a bottle of water first to allow the self control mechanism to kick in.

Alternatively, just thinking about words relating to urination can also trigger the same effect.

Mirjam Tuk, the leader of the research, said: “People are more able to control their impulses for short term pleasure and choose more often an option which is more beneficial in the long run if they have a full bladder.”

She added: “The brain sending this signal is activated not only for bladder control, but for all sorts of control with impulsive desires originating from the same neurological area.”
