Karting success for local racer

Local kart racer Tomás Apolónia may have only just turned 10, however he has proved himself to be a dab hand on the race track with his skills most recently being put to the test across the border in Spain.

Over the weekend of September 9 to 11, Tomás from Almancil travelled to Seville to take part in the Campeonato de Espanha de Karting 2011 and finished in 12th position from a field of 36 in the age seven to 10 category.

Tomás had hoped to be placed within the top five during the championships, especially given his win in the third round of the Portuguese Karting Championships earlier in the year but was pleased with his overall performance during his debut in the championships in Spain.

Tomás and the team will now head off to the fourth round of the Portuguese Karting Championships taking place in Bombarral, north of Lisbon.
