Kart track to open in July

The new Kartódromo Internacional do Algarve, Algarve International Karting circuit, has started operating, following a soft opening, at Autódromo Internacional do Algarve in Portimão.

The official opening is scheduled for the weekend of July 3 and 4, when it will host a national championship kart race.

This new karting track has cost around 11 million euros and will create 20 jobs. The track will have three lanes running at the same time, and an extra lane for children up to six years old.

The kartódromo will also be a multi-purpose karting circuit suitable for a very wide range of uses, from the traditional races in national and international championships to amateur races, or simply for hiring go-karts for fun. There will be 112 different versions of the circuit depending on the type of use, and it will be one of the biggest karting circuits in Europe.

The total perimeter of the karting track is set to be 1,520 metres with a width of 9.5 metres. There will also be a restaurant, shops and stalls, as well as a rental system with more than 50 different categories of karts.

The layout of the track is intended to be for competition, but will also be a complex for tests in order to complement the Autodrómo International do Algarve.

Meanwhile, the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve (AIA) has been nominated in the Portuguese Marketeer magazine awards in the Sport category, alongside the Portugal Automobile Club, the Portuguese Golf Federation, the Lagos Sport and the Professional Football League.

This second edition of Marketeer awards, a specialist marketing publication, honours the best in the area of marketing, advertising and communication in Portugal during 2009, in a total of 23 categories with 116 nominees.

Ricardo Silva, Marketing Director of the AIA, said: “This nomination is very important to the Autódromo do Algarve because it means recognition of the work we have been developing in marketing and communication with the Portuguese market. This nomination is dedicated to all employees of AIA, customers and partners, who work every day to build a stronger brand, more solid and more reliable.”
